Speed limit reduction sought near Starpoint schools

PENDLETON - The Town of Pendleton is asking the state Department of Transportation to reduce the speed limit on Mapleton Road in front of the Starpoint Central School campus from 55 mph to 45 mph.

The Niagara County Legislature also endorsed the town's request at its Dec. 13 meeting.

The lowered speed limit, if granted by the DOT, would apply to Mapleton Road between Campbell Boulevard and Wheatfield-Pendleton Town Line Road. The request was made because of safety concerns stemming from past accidents and the large number of vehicles heading in and out of the school's numerous driveways.
