Strong winds begin this afternoon in northern Erie, Niagara counties

Sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts of 45 to 50 mph are expected starting this afternoon in northern Erie and Niagara counties.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory that starts at 1 p.m. and runs through 1 a.m. Wednesday for those areas.

Minor property damage and localized power outages are possible, the weather service said. Loose, lightweight items that are outdoors should be secured and drivers in high-profile vehicles should use extra caution, especially on elevated roadways like the Skyway and the Grand Island bridges.
