Depew students hope to stuff a bus with donated food for food pantry

A Stuff-the-Bus full of food campaign kicks off early Tuesday morning in front of Depew High School to gather as much food as possible for needy families.

Beginning at 7 a.m., the school's front parking lot at 5201 S. Transit Road will be the dropoff point for anyone who wants to donate a non-perishable food item.

Last year, Depew students discovered it takes about 4,476 non-perishable items to fill a full-size school bus.

This year’s collection runs for 12 hours as students, staff and the superintendent rotate in shifts outside to accept donations. All donations will be taken to the Tri-Community Food Pantry in Depew.

Those who donate 10 or more food items will not leave empty-handed. Students have crafted one-of-a-kind, handmade and individually-painted holiday ornaments as a thank you gift for large-scale donations. The ornaments are available while supplies last.
