Light rail would benefit region more than Uber
Erie County Legislature Majority Leader Joseph Lorigo is upset because Kazakhstan has Uber and Buffalo does not! He somehow persuaded Erie County to give $100,000 of taxpayer money to help businesses that can well afford to pay their own way. Business is supposed to pay its own way.
Let me tell you what upsets me. When I volunteer at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport information desk and people from another part of the world ask me, “where do I catch the train to Buffalo’s downtown?” and I need to tell them, “we do not have one.” That upsets me!
Cities in other parts of the world have trains into their downtown, but Lorigo is upset that Kazakhstan has Uber and we do not.
It’s a shame, because $100,000 of taxpayer money would be much better spent to help build light rail for the common good, meaning all of the people, not just the few Uber drivers. I’m very tired of the taxpayers subsidizing the rich so that the rich get richer.
