Southtowns gas station owner pays back wages for violating labor laws

The owner of three local gas stations has paid $84,000 in back wages and damages to 41 employees after an investigation showed he violated labor laws.

The investigation, by the Buffalo office of the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division, found that Lakhwinder Gill regularly failed to pay employees overtime, falsified time records, did not pay employees for all the hours they worked and made unlawful wage deductions.

At his Mobil station, 8445 Southwestern Blvd. in Angola, Gill will pay 32 employees $53,342 in back wages and damages. At his Valero station, 3932 South Park Ave., he'll pay eight employees $30,494 in back wages and damages. At his Mobil station, 4878 Lakeshore Road in Hamburg, he will pay one employee $162 in back wages and damages. Gill will also pay $1,000 in civil penalties.
