TODAY’S CATCH – Holy Mother of the Rosary Cathedral, 6298 Broadway, Lancaster, holds a fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. today featuring homemade salads and desserts. A fried fish dinner is $9.50, baked fish is $9.75 and a shrimp dinner is $10.

HELP A VET – It’s not too soon to start collecting nonperishable food items for the food drive sponsored by Roll of Honor Chapter 120, Disabled American Veterans, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 18 in the Braunshidle Post, 3354 Delaware Ave., Town of Tonawanda. Cash donations will be used to purchase turkeys and hams for needy veterans’ families for the holidays.
The DAV chapter also will collect new men’s and women’s underclothes for their clothing room at Buffalo Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Needed, too, are new or slightly used coats for veterans, sizes small to 4-5X.
“For the past three or four years, we have been running the clothing room,” says junior vice commander Alex Szewczyk. “We have been able to help hundreds of veterans who come in with little to no clothing.”

GIFT IDEAS – Local artisans will offer one-of-a-kind pottery, jewelry, home items and apparel when Aurora Waldorf School, 525 West Falls Road, West Falls, holds its third annual Holiday Market from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Apple strudel and a wide variety of ethnic cookies will make their annual appearance at the huge Holiday Bake Sale from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in St. Stephen Serbian Orthodox Church Hall, Abbott and Weber roads, Lackawanna.

The Woodlawn Church of Christ, 3691 Fourth St., Woodlawn, will hold its annual Christmas cookie and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

A Christmas cookie sale and raffle will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the Parish Hall at St. John XXIII Parish, Arcade Street and Harlem Road, West Seneca. Children can get help in writing their letters to Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand to take the letters to the North Pole.

The annual cookie sale and craft sale in St. Bernard’s Parish Hall, 1988 Clinton St., will be held from noon Saturday until sold out. Cookies are boxed with a ribbon. Crafts are made by the Parish Craft Club. For more info, call 822-8856.

Featured will be the Calvary Festival Choir and Brass, with a prelude from the Ring Masters Handbell Ensemble. Early arrival is recommended for the best parking and seating at this popular service.
