Fire in house on Hidden Pond Lane in Amherst causes $40,000 damage

A fire that began near the front door of a house at 35 Hidden Pond Lane in Amherst Thursday night was put out but caused $40,000 damage, according to Chief Paul Griebner of the Snyder Fire Department.

The fire was called in about 7:07 p.m. and was out within about 15 minutes, but heavy smoke caused by the fire forced its three adult occupants to seek temporary housing, according to Griebner.

Damage to the structure was listed at $20,000 and to the contents at $20,000.

Hidden Pond Lane is off Getzville Road between Main Street and Sheridan Drive.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the fire chief said.
