Kenmore man who drove away from traffic stop sentenced to 5 months in jail

A Kenmore man was sentenced Monday to five months in jail for a conviction of unlawfully fleeing a police officer, according to Cheektowaga police.

Antoniel Colon, 33, of Sanders Road was pulled over on Harlem Road near Maryvale Drive on Sept. 30 for having an expired inspection, police said. When the officer approached Colon's vehicle, he sped away.

Colon was located a short time later on Ridge Park Avenue when police found him exiting his vehicle. He ran from officers but was caught in a nearby yard, according to Cheektowaga police.

Town Justice Paul Piotrowski issued the sentence based on the danger the officers and the public were subjected to by Colon, officials said.
