A Buffalo man was charged with weapons possession Sunday at a Dick Road hotel, according to Cheektowaga police.
Officers were called to the Homewood Suites at 760 Dick Road at 12:50 a.m. for a complaint of a group of people drinking and smoking marijuana and causing problems at the hotel.
When officers arrived, they encountered a group of men carrying a bottle of whiskey and trying to get into a vehicle. One officer saw a bag of marijuana sticking out of one of the men's pockets, according to town police.
When the officer tried to detain the man, he pulled away and kept reaching into a pocket at the same time ignoring the officer's orders to keep his hands up, police said. When additional officers arrived, the man was subdued and handcuffed.
Police found a loaded revolver in the pocket into which the man was reaching. Inside the vehicle the men were trying to get into police found a glass jar containing marijuana, authorities said.
Police charged Prentice Thornton Jr., 22, of Berwyn Avenue with criminal possession of a loaded firearm, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of marijuana.
He was arraigned before Town Justice Dennis Gorski, who held Thornton in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
