The Buffalo Beauts made it two wins in their last three games on Saturday afternoon. They defeated the New York Riveters, 5-3, in Newark, N.J.
The Beauts never trailed in the game, but they did have to hold off the Riverters at several points. Devon Skeats and Jacquie Graco scored for Buffalo in the first 10 minutes of the game. However, New York tied the game at 2-2 by the first few minutes of the second period.
Emil Pfalzer put Buffalo in front at 4:41 of that period, and Shiann Darkangelo added some insurance with the Beauts’ fourth goal of the game at 1:32 of the third. New York got one of those back, but Buffalo’s Megan Bozek wrapped up the scoring in the final three minutes.
The Beauts had a 34-28 edge in shots, as goalie Amanda Leveille had 25 saves to earn the win. The Riveters stayed close with two power-play goals in five chances.
Buffalo has won two out of its last three to go 3-4-0-0-1, good for second place in the National Women’s Hockey League standings. The Beauts have dropped all three games to first-place Boston so far this season.
Buffalo plays at Connecticut next Saturday night, and then will be off until Jan. 7.
