Letter: Another way to celebrate national holiday in October

Another way to celebrate national holiday in October

A Nov. 25 News article gives five excellent reasons for changing our focus from Columbus Day to Indigenous People’s Day.

To extend that idea, why not honor all for whom history has overlooked the truth? That would include indigenous people as well as immigrants, past and present.

For many years, I have thought how smart it would be to move our November Thanksgiving to the current October holiday.

Given our usual lovely fall weather, travel would be a non-issue. Guests could be outside, farmers markets could provide our fresh, local food and we would still have an extra hour of daylight.

Some of my friends have already made this choice arbitrarily. Their families seem to be on board with the idea.

We have fewer and fewer opportunities to creatively change our lives. Could this be a start?
