Homeroom Announcements: Wednesday's big games & more

Get yourself ready for today's #PrepTalkLive action with everything you need to know about the day ahead in high school sports.

What to watch for Wednesday

1. Boys basketball - Lancaster Tip-Off

Cleveland Hill, Dunkirk and Health Sciences all make their way to Lancaster tonight for the Legends' tip-off tournament.

The Eagles and Falcons open it up at 6 p.m., while the Marauders play host Lancaster at 7:30 p.m.

Cleve Hill lost its top three scorers from last year's ECIC IV championship team, but do have experience with eight seniors on the roster. One of them, 6-foot-4 guard Chase Johnson, was fourth at 9.2 points per game. Four players scored in double figures, including a game-high 21 from Tyron Lott, for Health Sciences in its 75-54 season-opening win at Wilson Monday.

It's the first game for both Lancaster and Dunkirk. The Legends lost a lot of scoring from their 14-7 squad last year, but do return Vito Fulciniti (9 ppg), among others. Tyreek Buchanon Ruiz and Evon Hernandez, quarterback of the football team, both averaged about 7 ppg for the 12-9 Marauders last season.

2. Girls basketball - Matthew Foster Memorial Tournament at Iroquois

Iroquois hosts a doubleheader in its annual tip-off tournament, with the winners facing off in the championship game on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Other nonleague action includes Tonawanda at Akron, Walsh at Nardin and Falconer at Westfield.

3. Boys hockey - Lockport vs. Lew-Port, 8 p.m. at Cornerstone Arena

A Division 4 matchup between the Lancers and Lions is the lone hockey game on today's schedule.

Mat Carden scored twice and Nick Shotwell had 25 saves in Lew-Port's season opener, a 5-2 league win over North Tonawanda. It's the first game for Lockport, which is looking to build off a two-win 2015-16 season. Both wins came at the end of the year, so the Lions are looking to carry that momentum into this season.
