Two charged in separate incidents at hotel construction sites in Niagara Falls

NIAGARA FALLS – Two people have been charged in separate incidents at hotel construction sites on Sunday.

At about 9:15 a.m. Sunday, police arrested a man detained by an off-duty police captain working security at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel site, 401 Buffalo Ave., according to a city police report.

Brett P. Stewart, 38, of Niagara Falls was found walking around inside the building and told security he was buying items from vending machines and looking for a job application. The building has no vending machines. Stewart was charged with third-degree criminal trespass.

At about 11 p.m. Sunday, police were called to the Courtyard by Marriott site under construction at 1001 Buffalo Ave.

Julia R. Culbert, 19, of Grand Island was found hiding in a small room inside the building, according to the police report. She had a headlamp, a pair of gloves and a cell phone on her, the report said.

She was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal trespass and possession of burglar tools.
