New York Beer Project to celebrate birthday with Liquid Birthday Cake Ale

Lockport brewery New York Beer Project is turning 1 year old and celebrating in style.

NYBP will kick the party off at 11 a.m. Nov. 19 at 6933 S. Transit Road, Lockport, with the tapping of two special releases, Liquid Birthday Cake Ale and Supernatural.

For the first beer, the brewers wanted to take a simple blonde ale recipe and infuse it with the flavor of a funfetti birthday cake.

The second release will be NYBP’s first kettle-soured beer, which boasts a fruity late hop addition. The brewers added 132 pounds of passion fruit to blend with the lactic acid sourness produced in the brewing process.

Food will be available as well. A special anniversary chili will be served in the taproom, while it lasts. The brewery recommends pairing the chili with their juicy double IPA, Righteous Dude, which is now back on tap at NYBP. The chili will come out at 3 p.m.

At 5 p.m., head to the taproom for a toast to a successful first year and to a second prosperous year at the Project.

Live music can be heard throughout the afternoon and evening. Ed Wyner will perform, followed by the music of the Blue Ribbon Bastards from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Flight specials will be available throughout the day as well:

• Flights of NYBP beer
• Smoker flight (pulled pork, brisket and ribs all prepared in NYBP’s new smoker)
• Taco flight (tacos with three different proteins)
• Pizza flight (one pizza prepared four different ways)
• Beer Project Fantasy Flight (one pulled pork slider, one brisket biscuit and an Upper East Side burger slider with cheddar, avocado and smoked bacon). Comes with a flight of beer.

As an alternative to beer, the Project will also debut a new Prohibition-style cocktail menu featuring a Dark n’ Stormy, Grapefruit Cake Martini, and an Outrageous Bloody Mary featuring a “fully loaded” skewer of cheese, pepperoni and shrimp.
