Man in Wheatfield standoff indicted on gun charges

LOCKPORT - A man who held Niagara County sheriff's deputies and state troopers at bay on Halloween pleaded not guilty to a five-count indictment Tuesday in State Supreme Court.

James E. Walcott, 46, of Niagara Falls Boulevard, Wheatfield, was ordered jailed in lieu of $50,000 bail by Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr.

Walcott is charged with three counts of criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of reckless endangerment. Assistant District Attorney Lisa M. Baehre said Walcott had two semiautomatic rifles and fired two rounds from one of them, allegedly an AK-47 assault rifle, inside his home during the one-hour standoff.
