West Seneca man charged with DWI after wrong-way crash on I-190

A West Seneca man crashed into two cars while driving the wrong way on the Interstate-190 in downtown Buffalo on Saturday faces driving while intoxicated and reckless endangerment charges, the State Police said.

Troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash at about 3:23 a.m. on the northbound I-190 between the Elm Street and Church Street exits.

Investigators determined Robert J. Deppeler, 23, was driving southbound in the northbound lanes at the time of the crash, police said.

Deppeler was taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. He submitted to having blood drawn to determine his alcohol level, the State Police said.

Occupants of other vehicles were also taken to ECMC with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities charged Deppeler with DWI, first-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving and other vehicle and traffic violations.

Deppeler remained hospitalized on Monday.
