Police corral alleged purse snatcher near casino crime scene

NIAGARA FALLS -- New York State Parks police arrested an alleged purse snatcher early Friday as he fled a crime scene outside the Seneca Niagara Casino on Fourth Street.

Anthony R. Hands, 39, was stopped at Seventh and Niagara streets around 12:40 a.m. as he drove off in his pickup, police said.  Officers said they recovered the stolen purse and other property belonging to the 61-year-old victim from  Hands’ pickup.

The robbery occurred about 2:30 a.m. as the victim, a Sanborn resident, left the casino on  Fourth Street and walked toward her car. She told police that the robber ran up behind her, knocked her to the ground and grabbed the  purse, which contained  credit cards, cellphone and about $40 cash. She suffered cuts and scrapes but was not seriously injured, police said.

Hands was charged with second-degree robbery, second-degree assault, fourth-degree grand larceny, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, petit larceny and  unlicensed operation.
