Two-car crash on Transit injures three

A two-car crash at Transit and Casey roads Saturday night left three people injured and one driver facing DWI charges, Amherst police reported Sunday.

Rachel J. Parks, 17, of East Amherst was driving a 2005 Toyota north on Transit around 9:33 p.m. when she turned left to go west on Casey, according to Capt. Patrick McKenna of the Accident Investigation Unit. The Toyota was struck on the passenger side by a 2016 Chevrolet that was southbound on Transit.

The driver of the Chevrolet, C. M. Kacalski, 47, of East Amherst was charged with DWI. His front-seat passenger, Michael W. Howland, 46, of Lancaster was taken to Erie County Medical Center with a laceration on his head. Parks was taken to ECMC with hip pain. Her passenger, John R. Striegel, 17, of Lancaster, was also transported to ECMC with a head injury and a fractured pelvis.

The investigation is continuing and anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call Amherst police at 689-1322.
