Ohio woman arrested at border linked to credit card fraud

LEWISTON – An Ohio woman faces two-dozen felony charges stemming from her recent arrest at the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge.

Town police on Monday arrested Vaso A. Amponash, 24, on Monday after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers found her to be in possession of a dozen fraudulent credit and debit cards. They also seized a “stack” of gift cards believed to have been purchased using the fraudulent cards.

Police said they also seized the suspect’s cellphone, which contained “incriminating messages” pertaining to the cards.

Amponash was charged with 12 counts each of second-degree forgery and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, as well as unlawful use of a credit card and unlawful possession of a personal identification.
