Former employee pays restitution in thefts from Ransomville pizzeria

LOCKPORT - A former employee of Rocky's Pizza II in Ransomville avoided jail time Tuesday in the theft of $4,770 from the business last year.

Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III sentenced Mark T. Altizer, 26, of Hinman Street, Youngstown, to five years' probation for fourth-degree grand larceny. He also ordered Altizer to serve 20 days in the county work program, but said he'd cut that in half if Altizer completes 10 days before Jan. 1.

Altizer blamed the thefts on his dependence on prescription pills, but he said since his arrest he's been through a rehabilitation program and no longer uses them.

Restitution was paid in full before Tuesday's sentencing, defense attorney Ryan P. Hanna said.
