Niagara Falls man charged with threatening to shoot woman

NIAGARA FALLS - A man with a gun threatened to kill a woman Sunday night at an Elmwood Avenue apartment, according to a city police report.

The woman told police a man came to her door at about 8:40 p.m. and wanted to speak with her boyfriend, who he said owed him money.

The woman had just put her child to sleep in her upstairs apartment when the man came to the door, she told police. Her apartment on Elmwood is between 17th and 19th streets.

Her boyfriend told her to tell the man to leave, and when she passed along the message the man at the door became irate, pulled out the gun and threatened to kill her, according to the report. The man then ran off the porch and drove away.

Police subsequently arrested Derrick A. Daniels, 51, of 23rd Street, on the 500 block of 24th Street, according to the report. Daniels was charged with second-degree menacing and two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police said Daniels had 40 Hydrocodone pills and 39 Percocet pills in his vehicle.

Police did not recover the gun. Daniels told police he ditched the gun near 19th Street and Walnut Avenue, the report said.
