Homeroom Announcements: Wednesday's big games & more

Get yourself ready for today's #PrepTalkLive action with everything you need to know about the day ahead in high school sports.

What to watch for Wednesday

1. Boys volleyball - Hamburg at Clarence, 6 p.m.

Clarence, last week's No. 6 in the coaches poll (no poll was submitted this week), hosts fellow ECIC I foe No. 7 Hamburg. Both teams are 4-1 since the Red Devils beat the Bulldogs, 3-1, on Sept. 15. Clarence's run included a five-set win over No. 4 Orchard Park and a loss to No. 3 Frontier. Hamburg has a win over Frontier in five sets and a loss to Orchard Park in its past five games.

2. Boys volleyball - Frontier at St. Francis, 6:30 p.m.

No. 3 Frontier was swept by No. 1 Canisius on Sept. 21, so the Falcons are hoping for more success against a different Monsignor Martin Association school. No. 8 St. Francis' only losses have come to Canisius and No. 5 Lockport, which just suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday against Orchard Park.

3. Girls soccer - Portville at Ellicottville, 6 p.m.

No. 10 small school Ellicottville (9-4-1, 8-3) hosts Portville (9-3-2, 7-2-2), which beat the Eagles, 4-2, two weeks ago. Both teams look up at No. 4 Allegany-Limestone (14-1, 11-1) in the CCAA East division. The lone loss for the Gators came to Ellicottville in overtime, 3-2, back on Sept. 19.

4. Boys soccer - Lake Shore at East Aurora, 7 p.m.

The No. 3 small school Blue Devils (11-3-1, 10-1) are knotted with Starpoint (12-3, 10-1) atop the ECIC III division. Both teams are 10-1 against league foes with the losses coming to each other, so a win here for East Aurora is crucial to keep its division title, or co-title, hopes alive.

5. Boys volleyball - Canisius at St. Joe's, 6 p.m.

No. 1 Canisius swept St. Joe's pretty handily in the first meeting on Sept. 22, but you still never truly know how a Crusaders-Marauders clash will turn out.
