Warm the Children is kicking off its 10th year of providing coats, hats and boots for youngsters in the Southtowns.
The Rotary Club of Hamburg, in partnership with the Town of Hamburg Lions Club, has begun collecting donated funds to purchase new, warm winter clothing for children.
Schools, churches and human service agencies are identifying families in need from Hamburg, Angola, Blasdell, Brant, Derby, Eden, Lake View, Evans and North Collins. Parents, accompanied by volunteers, will shop at Sears at McKinley Mall, and the funds raised will pay for the items.
Last year, 370 children from 140 families were helped.
“One hundred percent of all tax-deductible contributions made to Warm the Children go toward the purchase of new clothing,” said Elizabeth Angelbeck, who coordinates the program for the Rotary Club.
While contributions in any amount are accepted, it is suggested that individuals, businesses and organizations consider sponsoring a child by donating $60, $100 or $125, which buys clothing for children ages birth to four, five to 14 and 15-18, respectively.
Checks can be made to Warm the Children Fund may be dropped off or mailed to Evans Bank, 5999 South Park Ave., Hamburg, NY 14075. Donations also can be made online at www.hamburgrotaryclub.org.
