An unlicensed driver whose license has been suspended 37 times fled a traffic stop Tuesday morning and twice crashed his car into a police vehicle during a chase, Buffalo police said.
Officers tried pulling over Walter Dennis' car at about 2:30 a.m. when they were responding to a "shots fired" call at Clinton Street and Jefferson Avenue.
A chase ensued through the city's East Side. It ended at Kensington Avenue and Clarence Avenue when Dennis' car and the police SUV crashed. The crash caused the airbags to deploy in the police vehicle and Dennis suffered minor injuries.
Dennis, 40, refused to cooperate with officers and refused a breath test. He was charged with reckless endangerment, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated and several traffic violations.
