The State Health Department is testing “an isolated batch of refried beans” served at Mighty Taco stores in the Buffalo area following reports that five customers became ill, Mighty Taco officials said in a statement Thursday.
The refried beans were provided by a third-party supplier, the restaurant chain reported.
“There are no conclusive results at this time but, in an abundance of caution, Mighty Taco has voluntarily removed that sole suspect batch of refried beans from our stores and that batch is no longer available to customers,” said Mighty Taco Chief Operating Officer Russell Jasulevich.
The Erie County and Niagara County health departments are investigating complaints about illnesses associated with four Mighty Taco locations.
Erie County health officials said the investigation includes “evaluation of the nature of the reported illness” as well as “inspection, sampling and analysis of food ingredients, both at a restaurant level and within the ingredient supply chain.”
