Amherst property owners are being reminded to pay their school district taxes by the due date, Oct. 17.
There are several ways to pay them, said Amherst Town Clerk Marjory Jaeger. Payments that are made by mail must be postmarked by Oct. 17 to avoid penalties. Those owing taxes may also pay them in person at the town clerk’s office in Town Hall, 5583 Main St., Williamsville. The clerk’s office accepts cash, money orders and credit or debit card payments, for which a mandatory service fee will be incurred. The clerk’s office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with extended hours to 6 p.m. on Oct. 14 and 16. The office will be open on Monday for the Columbus Day holiday.
In addition, taxes can also be paid online at www.amherst.ny.us, or at selected M&T Bank branches, the locations for which are listed on the back of residents’ tax bills.
“Providing several payment methods and additional hours for collection are just a couple of ways I am making the Clerk’s Office user friendly. It gives our residents an opportunity to pay their taxes outside of traditional methods and office hours,” Jaeger said.
