Boat sinks in Erie Canal

NORTH TONAWANDA – Hazmat teams from Niagara County and the Niagara Air Reserve Base were called to clean up a gasoline leak after a boat was found submerged in the Erie Canal just after 7 a.m. Tuesday at 153 Sweeney St.

The unidentified owner of the boat drove by and found his boat had sunk, according to the North Tonawanda Fire Department. It’s unknown what caused the boat to sink. No injuries were reported.

A local salvage yard was called in to remove the boat.
