Jazmin Brown opened Jaz & Jack’s downtown on Broadway Street at the end of August.
The restaurant is a breakfast and lunch place featuring Southern flavors, open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. The space, at 36 Broadway St., was last Perk’s Cafe. “We get the breakfast and lunch crowd, and we do hold birthday parties and private events for people,” she said.
Brown said that she has cooked at a neighborhood tavern before, but this is her first restaurant of her own.
Breakfast offerings include a Belgian waffle and a Monte Cristo sandwich of bacon, eggs and Swiss cheese on French toast (both $7). For lunch or later, the buttermilk fried chicken dinner ($15 with two sides) has been popular, Brown said. There’s also shrimp and cheddar grits ($16). The full menu can be viewed at jazandjacks.com.
The restaurant also makes its own desserts, including a double chocolate cake, and banana cake, Brown said.
