Former employee admits to stealing from Lewiston store

LOCKPORT – A Town of Lockport woman who uses opiates pleaded guilty Friday in State Supreme Court to stealing $9,414 from the Lewiston convenience store where she formerly worked.

Megan A. Burns, 23, of Leete Road, admitted to third-degree grand larceny for raiding the till between Feb. 11 and June 27 at the A-Plus Mini Mart on Center Street.

Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. admitted Burns to the judicial diversion program of court-supervised drug treatment. If she succeeds there, the charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor with a nonjail sentence. If Burns fails in treatment, she risks a prison term of as long as seven years. Full restitution also will be ordered regardless of how Burns fares in the drug program.

Charges remain pending against a co-defendant in the case, Jeremy C. Kaufman, 24, of Maple Road, Wilson.
