Sept. 29 - Lake Erie Chapter of Fly Fishers monthly meeting starting at  p.m.; fly tying at 6:00pm. Held at the American Legion post 735 in West Seneca, 35 Legion Parkway & Union Rd. Oct. 1 - Fall turkey season opens in the Northern Zone. Consult regulations guide for specific areas and bag limits.
Oct. 1 - Deadline for entering the Deer Management Unit permit lottery through license issuing agents around the state.
Oct. 1 – Beginner Birding walk at Buffalo’s Unity Island with Buffalo Audubon naturalist Tom Kerr from 10 am to noon. Meet at the north lot. Preregister by calling 585-457-3228.
Oct. 1 - Small game seasons open for ruffed grouse, coyote and cottontail rabbit in WNY, with opportunities for varying hare, pheasant and turkey opening up in other locations around the state.
Oct. 1 - Opening day of woodcock season through Nov. 14. Daily limit is three birds.
