Business People for the week of Sept. 25

Feldman Kieffer LLP hired Maisha Huggins-Blakeney as an associate. Huggins-Blakeney received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SUNY Buffalo State. She received her JD from the University at Buffalo.

Feldman Kieffer LLP hired Ethan S. Notarius as an associate. Notarius is a graduate of the University at Buffalo School of Law, and he received his undergraduate degree from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.

Buffalo law firm Cohen & Lombardo PC recently elected Thomas W. Bender as a partner. He previously worked as an assistant Erie County district attorney and as in-house counsel for the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. Bender received his JD from the University at Buffalo School of Law and his bachelor’s degree in political science from SUNY Brockport.

The Erie County Medical Center Corp. has appointed Andrew L. Davis as chief operating officer. Most recently, Davis served as interim chief executive officer at United Medical Center in Washington, D.C., a 354-bed acute care hospital and skilled nursing facility.

Super Lawyers, an attorney rating service of Thomson-Reuters, has named Hugh M. Russ III among its top 50 attorneys on the Upstate New York Super Lawyers list. A partner in the firm’s Tort, Insurance & Products Liability Practice, he has been included on the top 10 or top 50 lists for the past seven years. Super Lawyers compiles state- and region-specific lists based on the results of a comprehensive, multistate selection process.

Justin Guerin, operations director for the Food Bank of Western New York, was named the 2016 Eastern Region Operations Leader of the Year by Feeding America, a nationwide network of 200 food banks. Guerin oversees the distribution and delivery of nearly 15 million pounds of food on an annual basis to the Food Bank’s 329 member agencies throughout Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara counties.

Eye Care Professionals of WNY, an eye care practice with multiple locations throughout the area, has announced the addition of Dr. Lauren Kalinowski. She received her doctorate of optometry from Illinois College of Optometry in 2012.

Lippes Mathias Wexler Friedman LLP has announced that Amy E. McShane has joined the firm as senior counsel. She earned her JD from Boston University School of Law and received her undergraduate degree from St. Bonaventure University.

Sanath Rajapakse has been promoted to director at Freed Maxick CPAs PC. He specializes in risk management, business process alignment and improvement, project management, information technology consulting, regulatory compliance, and various audit and attestation services.

The Catholic Health Neuroscience Service Line has named Dr. Omar Kass-Hout as medical director of the Comprehensive Stroke Center located at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo. A neuroendovascular surgeon, Kass-Hout completed his medical degree at Damascus University School of Medicine and received his master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University in Atlanta. He completed his neurology residency at the University at Buffalo, and completed his stroke/vascular neurology fellowship at Emory University.

Vicki Landes, has been named vice president of community care coordination and services at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Landes is a graduate of Medaille College, where she earned her MBA, and SUNY Brockport, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Landes will provide organizational oversight for numerous programs and special projects related to care coordination and community services.

Unyts, Western New York’s organ, eye, tissue and community blood center, announced that Dr. Ephraim Singh Atwal has been named its Eye & Tissue medical director. Atwal, an ophthalmologist, is medical director at Atwal Eye Care. He will oversee and provide advice on all aspects of the eye and tissue bank operations.
