Channel 2 sports director Adam Benigni will be off the air for an undetermined period of time while recovering from multiple injuries after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle around noon Thursday near his home in Amherst.
Benigni thanked well-wishers Saturday morning via Twitter and tweeted: “Nice to be home from hospital, recovering well and hope to be back soon.”
In a private exchange with this reporter, Benigni said his head and face took the impact of the accident and that he is dealing with a concussion, headaches, lost teeth, facial stitches, various cuts, bumps and bruises and other pains from the impact.
He added that a brain bleed “appears to be resolved” and that a follow up CT scan will be done this week “to further evaluate.”
“Bike helmets are very good things,” he added, suggesting his injuries could have been far worse.
According to Benigni, he was headed north on Campbell Boulevard leading through the intersection of North French Road when a driver headed south on Campbell and turning left on North French “cut in front of me at (the) last second.”
