Sept. 22 – Utah/Arizona Concealed Carry Pistol Permit Class at Cabela’s, Cheektowaga. The store will be hosting concealed carry classes to meet the qualifying requirements and documentation to obtain the Utah and Arizona concealed carry permits in a fun, informative, non-intimidating class. These permits will allow combined carry reciprocity in approximately 30+ states.  These concealed carry class covers firearms safety, handling, transportation, storage, ammunition, self-defense and firearms laws, concealed carry techniques and much more. This course typically runs approximately 4 hours. The Utah and Arizona permits are open to residents of any state and can be applied for by mail. Sept. 24-25 - New York Power Authority’s 31st Annual Wildlife Festival in celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Day at the NYPA’s Power Vista located at 5777 Lewiston Road (adjacent to Niagara University) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Co-sponsored by the Niagara County Federation of Conservation Clubs, catch a fish at the Niagara River Anglers fishing pond or shoot pellet guns at the Federation’s shooting trailer. Visit with the Primate Sanctuary and guess which one is Carmen Presti. Sanctioned duck calling contest, fashion show, outdoor game cookery and more. Loads of fun for the whole family! Sept. 24 – Oatka Creek Tree and Shrub planting. The Wyoming Co. Soil and Water Conservation District, in conjunction with Trout Unlimited, will be partnering to plant trees and shrubs starting at 9 am. Their goal is to plant 800 trees and shrubs.  Volunteers are needed. Grab a shovel and meet at Rock Glen Baptist Church, 4311 NY-19 in Silver Springs. Sept. 25 – Final day, early nuisance goose season in upstate New York.

Sept. 29 -- The Lake Erie Chapter of Fly Fishers is meeting Thursday, Sept. 29th  at 7 p.m. and fly tying at 6 p.m. The meetings are held at the American Legion post 735 in West Seneca, 35 Legion Parkway & Union Road. Jim Markham, from the NYS DEC, will be the guest speaker, talking on the upcoming steelhead season.

Sept. 30 – Final day, Lake Trout season in Lake Ontario.

Oct. 1 – 6th Annual Rich Brauer/DB Memorial Perch Tournament (with awards and cookout on Oct. 2 at Brauer’s Restaurant, Campbell Blvd., Pendleton). Fishing will be from 12:01 am to 6 pm. Registration fee $10. Money to benefit KidsPeace. Call Eric at 698-4505.

Oct. 1 - Southern Zone early archery season opens for deer and bear.

Oct. 1 - Fall turkey season opens in the Northern Zone.  Consult regulations guide for specific areas and bag limits.Oct. 1 - Deadline for entering the Deer Management Unit permit lottery through license issuing agents around the state.

Oct. 1 - Small game seasons open for ruffed grouse, coyote and cottontail rabbit in WNY, with opportunities for varying hare, pheasant and turkey opening up in other locations around the state.

Oct. 1 - Opening day of woodcock season through Nov. 14. Daily limit is three birds.
