East Aurora’s Smith is a super senior at state am golf tournament

Paul Pratico of Schenectady held on to capture the state men’s senior amateur golf title, while Western New Yorkers finished first and third in the super seniors portion of the tournament at Brookfield Country Club in Clarence.

Jim Smith of East Aurora overcame a three-shot deficit through two rounds and closed with a 73 to capture the super seniors (ages 65 and over) title by one stroke over second-round leader Dana Consier of Fairport. Smith finished with 73-74-73-220. Lewiston’s Fred Silver shot his third straight 74 and finished two shots back in third.

Pratico closed the regular senior competition with a 77 to finished with a score of 221. He finished three shots ahead of Syracuse’s Stewart McGough. Williamsville North hockey coach Bob Rosen shot a final-round 74 to finish with a 229, finishing in a five-way tie for eighth with East Amherst’s Tom Connors. Chris Drongosky of Amherst and Clarence’s John Miosi each finished with 230.
