Maximum penalty given to Falls man whose assault left roommate brain-damaged

LOCKPORT – Juan E. Carreras, whose brutal beating of his Niagara Falls roommate left the victim with a traumatic brain injury, on Monday received the maximum sentence for his guilty plea.

Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon ordered Carreras, 28, of Pierce Avenue, to serve seven years in state prison and three years’ of post-release supervision for second-degree assault.

Carreras used his fists and feet to attack his male victim April 13, leaving the man facing a long stint of physical therapy.
