Driver won’t be charged after pedestrian killed on Niagara Falls Boulevard

No charges will be filed against the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed Amherst man while crossing Niagara Falls Boulevard Aug. 30, Amherst police said.

John C. Strasser, 62, was struck by an SUV before sunrise as he tried to cross the boulevard near Roger Chaffee Drive.

Amherst police completed an investigation and concluded the the SUV driver won’t face charges, Capt. Patrick M. McKenna told The Buffalo News.

Strasser was the fourth pedestrian killed over a 2.8-mile stretch of Niagara Falls Boulevard in a little more than three years.

Officials in Tonawanda and Amherst said they are working on a study they hope will make the boulevard safer for pedestrians and motorists.
