The Buffalo Bandits have signed two players to one-year contracts; one is a new face and the other has been around for more than a decade.
Dean Hill is the veteran. The forward has spent 11 seasons in the National Lacrosse League, playing for five different teams. He has 247 points in 98 games. Hill was a member of the Minnesota Swarm in 2015, where he had 22 points in 13 games. He did not play last season.
Meanwhile, veteran Billy Dee Smith will be back. The defender has been a Bandit since he was taken in the first round of the 2002 NLL Entry Draft. He was the captain of the team last season. Smith earlier this week won the Mann Cup, which goes to the top team in Senior A lacrosse in Canada, with the Six Nations Chiefs. News reports indicated that Smith has a damaged left knee and will need a medical procedure to repair it.
Earlier this week, the Bandits announced that their season would start with a home game on Friday, Dec. 30 against the Colorado Mammoth. Buffalo has only started one season before Jan. 1 since 2008, with that coming in 2014. The rest of the schedule will be announced at a later date.
