Niagara IDA gives developers more time to rehab Falls hotels

WHEATFIELD – The Niagara County Iindustrial Development Agency on Wednesday gave developers of two planned Niagara Falls hotels more time to complete their projects.

The IDA granted a six-month extension of the beginning of a PILOT for Rupal Corp., which plans to convert the old EconoLodge motel at 200 Rainbow Blvd. into a Courtyard by Marriott hotel. The IDA approved a 10-year PILOT last October, but ground has yet to be broken. A letter from the company anticipated the project starting this winter, blaming “scheduling matters” for the delay.

Also, the IDA gave a one-year extension of a sales tax exemption for a not-yet-completed Comfort Inn and Suites project at 6115 Niagara Falls Blvd. which received a PILOT in 2012. Ground was broken Aug. 30 and the construction is to last 11 months, general manager Galeb Rizek said.
