Late addition: Golden Griffins add shooting guard from Canada

Canisius College men's basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon got one last recurit onto the team for this season, and he could be an impact player.

The Griffs have added Martin Dixon-Green, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound shooting guard from Toronto. Dixon-Green was rated the seventh-best shooting guard in Canada among the Class of 2012. He started his collegiate career at Indian Hills Community College in Iowa in 2012-13. He transferred to Laramie County Community College in Wyoming for the 2013-14 campaign. While at LCCC, he suffered an illness that has kept him off the court for the last two seasons. He will have one year of eligibility remaining. Canisius plans to pursue an extension of eligibility waiver with the NCAA at the end of the season, based on Dixon-Green’s previous medical history.

“Martin has demonstrated an intense desire to compete at the Division I level and he will do that representing Canisius College,” Witherspoon said. “The timing of this has worked out that we have a scholarship available, and we are happy to give him this opportunity."

Dixon-Green returned to Indian Hills for the 2015-16 academic year, where he completed his associate’s degree work in August. With Dixon-Green's addition, Canisius has five Canadian-born players.
