The inaugural Gold Star Family Honor and Remembrance Ceremony Dinner is set for 7-10 p.m. Sept. 25 and members of the public are being urged to attend the gathering.
The event, organized by The Patriot Guardians, is in response to President Obama’s 2015 proclamation designating the last weekend of September as a time to recognize Gold Star Mothers and Gold Star Families who have lost loved ones while in active military duty.
There will be 18 Gold Star families at the event, but efforts to reach others and invite them are underway.
“We’d like to honor any family member who has lost someone while they were serving their country,” said a spokesperson for the Guardians. She can be reached at 445-1066.
Decorated Iraq War veteran David Bellavia will serve as the master of ceremonies in the Center for the Arts at the University at Buffalo’s North Campus. Cost to attend is $20 for a veteran and $35 for veteran families. Civilians are $65.00 per ticket and $100 per couple.
