Akron tops Barker
In a rematch of last year’s Section VI Class C field hockey championship, Akron came away with a 2-0 win over Barker.
Akron won the sectional title in 2015 ending Barker’s seven-year title streak.
In Thursday’s Niagara Frontier League game, twins Heather and Hannah Cummings scored for Akron while Madison Krzykowski made three saves in the shutout.
Record round for Wilson
Wilson carded a team score of 199 to set a new school record in a win over Roy-Hart as the two squared off in a Niagara-Orleans league match. Connor Seeley was the medalist, shooting a 36 at Willowbrook. Also scoring for the Lakemen were Jonah Miller (39), Nate Fox (40), Nick Seider (42) and Patrick Seeley (42).
Payne paces Clarence
Clarence improved to 2-0 in ECIC Division I boys volleyball with a straight-game win over West Seneca West, 25-19, 25-21, 25-23.
Henry Payne had 14 kills and Tyler White six kills to pace the Red Devils (4-1).
Diamond leads Will North
Samantha Diamond scored twice to help Williamsville North notch its first win of the season, a 4-0 blanking of West Seneca West in ECIC Division I girls soccer. Katie Bodie recorded the shutout.
Holland, McKinley advance
Holland and McKinley will play for the championship in the Amherst Boys Soccer Tournament on Saturday. Holland beat host Amherst, 1-0, on a goal from Riley Trautein. Isaak Nazeow had a goal and an assist to lead McKinley to a 4-1 win over Wilson.
In Monsignor Martin Association girls soccer Wednesday, Buffalo Seminary defeated O’Hara, 5-3, with Erin Griffis scoring three goals for the winners. The score was incorrectly reported on Thursday.
