Trooper stops to help disabled vehicle, turns out it was stolen

A trooper stopped to help a possibly disabled vehicle and then discovered the car had been stolen, State Police said.

The incident happened at about 12:40 p.m. Wednesday on the southbound Niagara Thruway on Grand Island, State Police said.

A trooper found two people inside a Buick Lucerne that was reported stolen in the Town of Tonawanda. Police also found cocaine and marijuana in the driver’s possession.

Jamar L. Mills, 21, of Buffalo was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.

Kayla M. Zynda, 18, of Lawtons, a hamlet in North Collins, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

Both were arraigned in Grand Island Town Court. Mills was remanded to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. Zynda was held on $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond, State Police said.
