A man followed a female student from the Buffalo State College library to her off-campus apartment where he broke in but the ran when the woman screamed for help early Wednesday morning, campus police reported.
Police said they are now searching for the man identified as Willie E. Caldwell.
A Buffalo State College spokesman said the man saw the female student studying in the E.H. Butler Library on campus Tuesday evening and approached her there. When the student left and walked to her nearby off-campus flat, Caldwell appeared there and then forced his way into her flat about 1 a.m. Wednesday.
Caldwell fled when the woman student screamed for help. The student was unharmed but University Police put out a campus-wide bulletin about Caldwell and asked anyone who sees him to either call campus police at 878-6333 or Buffalo police at 851-4413.
University Police also advised students, faculty and staff that they are encouraged to take advantage of the “safe escort program.”
