Fans of the popular adult game “Cards Against Humanity” can enjoy a new twist, as Rick Matthews has brought his “Comics Against Humanity” show to Helium Comedy Club.
The stand-up show features a number of local comedians drawing three cards from a “Cards Against Humanity” deck and making up jokes based on those cards, bringing an element of improv to the stand-up comedy room.
“None of the comics have any idea what the cards are before they get on stage,” Matthews said. “The crowd likes not seeing the same jokes from the same comics. Now they’re getting crazy, on-the-spot jokes from the same comics.”
Matthews, a popular local comedian who was named Buffalo’s Funniest Person in 2014, originated the show when he ran the comedy open mic night at Nietzsche’s. The first two “Comics Against Humanity” shows at Helium proved to be a draw.
The next “Comics Against Humanity” show is set for 8 p.m. Sept. 14. General admission tickets are $12 (box office, heliumcomedy.com).
