The press box at the Frontier Central High School athletic field has been renamed in honor of the district’s former grounds crew chief.
Stephen M. Plumer died Aug. 1, 31 days after he retired from the district, School Board President Janet MacGregor Plarr said.
“Steve really was an integral part of this district forever, for as long as I can remember,” she said.
As grounds crew chief, “Steve was the guy who took care of the ball field,” among other things, she said.
A ceremony to dedicate the press box will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 16 before the Falcons home football game at 7 p.m., Superintendent Bret Apthorpe said.
Plarr said that all the players knew Plumer, who was 58.
“Even though he wasn’t in the classroom he connected with kids in other ways,” she said.
