Alden inmate faces drug possession charges after marijuana found in sock

An inmate in the Erie County Correctional Facility in Alden faces new charges after officers found a bag of marijuana in his sock after he saw a visitor, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office said.

The marijuana was discovered at about 10:35 a.m. Tuesday after a search by a corrections officer and confirmed following a check by another corrections officer and his K9 partner, the sheriff’s office said.

Tyrell Brown, 23, was already in custody on a weapons charge and a parole violation, the sheriff’s office said. His new charges are possession of contraband and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Brown has an upcoming date in Alden Town Court.
