BATAVIA – A 7-year-old Batavia boy was taken to Women and Children’s Hospital after being burned early Saturday in a fire at his home, City of Batavia Fire officials confirmed.
The child’s condition was not available. The fire at the Pearl Street structure was confined to an upstairs apartment and extinguished by a downstairs neighbor before firefighters arrived. The neighbor, a fire official said, who had been awakened by a smoke alarm, brought pots of water upstairs to douse the fire.
Three others were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Their conditions also were unavailable.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
