Victim uses shovel to halt burglary in progress

NIAGARA FALLS – A burglary suspect needed medical attention after police arrived and found him injured and arguing with the victim, police reported.

Joseph D. Drabczyk, 26, of Creek Road, Lewiston was charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and petit larceny, just after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 2400 block of 24th Street.

A female victim said Drabczyk had tried to kick in the door and when he could not kick it in he entered by breaking a window.

A male victim said the suspect grabbed channel locks from a tool bag in the house and swung them at him, police reported.

The male victim then took a shovel and hit the suspect when he charged at him.

The two were arguing when police arrived.

An officer reported sustaining a cut on his hand when he patted Drabczyk down and found a razor blade in his pants pocket.
