Sister Patricia Reen, taught business courses at Western New York Catholic schools

Sister Patricia Reen, a teacher and executive secretary, died Monday in Sisters Hospital after a short illness. She was 85.

Born in Buffalo, she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1952 and professed her final vows in August 1959.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1961 from Mount St. Joseph Teachers College, now Medaille College, and a master’s degree in business education in 1968 from Catholic University in Washington, D.C.

For 10 years, she taught business subjects in Our Lady of Victory Academy in Lackawanna, Mount St. Joseph Academy in Buffalo, Cardinal Mindszenty High School in Dunkirk and Mount St. Joseph Business Institute. She also served her religious community for 25 years as executive secretary.

Returning to school, she earned an associate degree in dietetic technology from Erie Community College in 1992 and worked in the dietary department of the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence in Clarence until 2012.

She loved animals, especially giraffes, and served as a docent at the Buffalo Zoo for several years.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 4975 Strickler Road, Clarence.
