Michele ‘Michael’ Sanfilippo, known as ‘Mike the Tailor’

Michele “Michael” Sanfilippo of Kenmore, known to many as “Mike the Tailor,” died Aug. 16 in Buffalo General Medical Center. He was 78.

Born in Sicily, he served in the Italian army and learned tailoring in Turin before coming to live with his aunt on Buffalo’s West Side in the 1950s.

He spent several years in Las Vegas and in California, then returned to Buffalo.

Mr. Sanfilippo had tailor shops in North Tonawanda, Amherst and other locations, most recently in Highland Plaza in Kenmore.

Survivors include his wife, the former Lorraine Kalisiak; a daughter, Lisa Bardak; a son, Michael C.; two sisters, Nina and Maria; a brother, Nicolo; and five grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 263 Claremont Ave., Town of Tonawanda.
